With the recent news of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepping down from the Royal Family, fans of The Crown speculated how the series will turn out given the fact that Markle had a fantastic chance of playing as herself in the Golden Globe-winning series. While it is too early to visualize the present situation in real life to the series, maybe tackling it in future seasons would’ve been the best bet.
Unfortunately, though, this isn’t going to be possible.
Funnily enough, Prince Harry and Markle are reportedly been watching the series. They’re a part of the Family, I guess at that point, and that speaks volume on the amount of respect the series have put into the life of Queen Elizabeth. The reason why Meghan and Harry are stepping back is because they wanted to become financially independent from the Royal Family, which the Queen does not approve of at all––but that’s not really the reason why the fans’ future visualizations are not going to happen.
Peter Morgan, the creator of the show, can apparently read the future. I’m kidding, but he kind of did it though, so there’s definitely something going on here. Back in 2018, he said,
“I know how my show is going to end – but that’s long before where we are now. I feel uncomfortable writing about events within a certain time period. I think there’s a certain amount of time within which, if you write about it, what you do instantly becomes journalistic. Because it’s too close to the moment. If you wait a certain amount of time, if you allow fifteen or twenty years, basically a generation, between you and [the events] then you can write about it somewhat freely as drama. Let’s wait twenty years and see what there is to say about Meghan Markle. I don’t know what there is to say about Meghan Markle at the moment. I wouldn’t know and I wouldn’t presume. She’ll only become interesting once we’ve had twenty years to digest who she is and what her impact has been. If I were to write about Meghan Markle I would automatically be writing journalistically. I’ve got nothing to say about Meghan Markle.”
Now tell me I’m crazy for calling him some kind of prophet. Knowing that the creator of the show doesn’t know where Markle will sit in the series and its timeline, there won’t be any hoping around here for the near future. But hey, maybe Netflix is up to something else brewing following the exploding news.
We’ll just have to wait and see. 😉 For now, let’s enjoy ourselves The Crown if you still haven’t watched the award-winning series.
