As a kid, I’m guessing the majority of us––if not all––read some children’s books. With the likes of Geronimo Stilton and of course, Captain Underpants, all of us fell in love not only with the art and pictures but also because of the wacky stories.
With that being said, Captain Underpants is coming to save our day! With the efforts of a particular children’s book author, Dave Pilkey, the Captain Underpants franchise has skyrocketed when we were kids and became, somehow, a name we just couldn’t get off our heads. And just like that, we can relive our childhoods as the books’ upcoming spin-off series, The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants in Space is coming to our doorsteps on the 10th of July, 2020!
The series is a spinoff, so don’t expect it to follow or continue the plot from its earlier series, The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants. Since the series is set in space, we’re likely to see another crazy adventure with our only-underpants-wearing friend.
As provided by the people in Netflix themselves, here’s what the synopsis reads:
Best friends George and Harold – along with their classmates and tyrannical principal – are recruited for a mysterious mission in outer space.
If you’re familiar with the past series and movies from the supposed Captain Underpants multiverse, you know that the producers try their best to veer away from their original source materials––the books. However, there are some books from the series that are set in space––one being Captain Underpants and the Invasion of the Incredibly Naughty Cafeteria Ladies from Outer Space (and the Subsequent Assault of the Equally-Evil Lunchroom Zombie Nerds). That was one of the more fun titles I ever wrote in my writing life. I can’t believe that title will ever exist in this world, but it does––and I’m truly thankful.
With this, Dreamworks has already provided its share with their closing deal with the streaming giant. After this, there will no longer be series or movie releases from Dreamworks.
