“The Horror of Dolores Roach” is a project of the production company Blumhouse Television. Now Amazon Prime Video is starting preparations to adapt Blumhouse’s material to its streaming platform. According to Deadline, Dara Resnik (co-creator of Home Before Dark, the Apple TV Plus series) will be the showrunner for “The Horror of Dolores Roach.”
Resnik will work with Aaron Mark (creator of the podcast that gave birth to the original story) to produce this new Amazon Prime Video series.
Deadline describes “The Horror of Dolores Roach” as a grotesque story, a macabre urban legend about love, betrayal, marijuana, and cannibalism. It’s a story about the survival of the fittest.
The plot centers on Dolores Roach, a woman who returns home to New York after 16 years in prison. Dolores returns to find an unrecognizable world, her lost boyfriend, and her long-gone family. The only person who manages to recover from her past is an old friend, Luis, who gives Dolores a roof over her head and lets her give massages in exchange for money in the basement of his house.
When the promise of a new start and a stable life begins to slip away from Dolores, our protagonist is driven to reach extremes to survive.
There is no confirmation of release dates or cast for the series, but after we get out of the global pandemic, it won’t be long before we have information about it.
For Blumhouse, “The Horror of Dolores Roach” will be their highest level television project. If all goes well, for Amazon Prime, it will be another jewel in its original content catalog.
