‘The Queen’s Gambit’: Netflix Release Date, Cast, and Plot


The Queen’s Gambit is here––and judging by the mysteriously awesome title, you’re in for another great Netflix series. The Queen’s Gambit is a new drama mini-series from the streaming giant and it has been reported to come out soon. Here’s what you need to know about the series, release date, plot, and more!

The Queen’s Gambit is an upcoming Netflix series based on 1983’s book of the same name. The story follows Beth Harmon (Anya Taylor-Joy), a chess prodigy, however, her aspiration slowly turns into a doomed addiction. 

The new Netflix series has risen to the spotlight only last month, September 2020, and many were wondering when The Queen’s Gambit will be dropping in the streaming giant’s libraries. 

Release Date:

Well, to get it out of your chest already, the series will be coming to the streaming platform on the 23rd of October, 2020––only a couple of days until it comes out.

As it is one of Netflix’s cared-for Originals, the series and all of its six episodes will come all at the same time just like any Netflix Original series. 

Alongside the streaming giant’s order of The Queen Gambit and its six episodes, they’ve also acquired Scott Frank to direct the show. 


As for the stars, Anya Taylor-Joy will be starring as the main character in Beth Harmon, an orphan whose dream is to become the best chess player. Anya has also starred in Netflix’s The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance as Brea.

Moses Ingram will be starring as Jolene, an older orphan who forms an intimate relationship with Beth. 

Thomas Brodie-Sangster will be starring as Benny Watts, one of the toughest opponents Beth has to face. 

Harry Melling will be playing Harry Beltik, a chess champion.

Marielle Heller will be playing Mrs. Alma Wheatley, the adoptive mother of Beth.

Bill Camp will be playing Mr. Shaibel, the janitor who’s responsible for Beth’s love for chess.


The story will be revolving around the main character, Beth, who struggles with an addiction as she tries to pursue her mission to becoming a Grandmaster of chess. 

The official Netflix synopsis says: “When winning takes everything, what are you left with? The Queen’s Gambit follows a young chess prodigy’s rise from an orphanage to the world stage.” 

“But genius comes with a cost. A riveting adaptation of Walter Tevis’ groundbreaking novel comes to Netflix on October 23, starring Anya Taylor-Joy.”


As a new Netflix Original series, of course, this one’s a definite one-to-watch and a must-add to your watchlist. Anya Taylor-Joy isn’t a stranger to any streaming platform, she’s already worked on multiple projects such as The Dark Crystal: The Age of Resistance and Emma wherein the latter is included in our list of best movies on Redbox
