On Friday, Netflix will be releasing its first Netflix Original film that stars Penelope Cruz and Pablo Escob––oh, sorry, Wagner Moura from Narcos. In this article, you’ll get to know bit by bit everything you need to know about the thriller from the cast, plot, trailer, and of course, its release date.
Wasp Networkis an upcoming Netflix Original Spanish thriller spearheaded by Personal Shopper and Clouds of Sils Maria‘s Olivier Assayas. The thriller is inspired by Fernando Morais’ book “The Last Soldiers of the Cold War” and focuses on the story of the infamous Cuban Five. Epic, right?
For starters, Wasp Network will be streaming on the platform on Friday, the 19th of June 2020. However, the thriller has already premiered during the Venice film festival way back then, specifically on the 1st of September 2019.
The pot of the thrill revolves around the true story of the Cuban Five. René Gonzalez, a Cuban airplane pilot, comes to Miami to dismantle an anti-Castro organization––leaving his wife and daughter in Havana. While Gonzalez was working his way to the organization, his wife was facing false accusations of him being a traitor. However treacherous it was, what Gonzalez was doing was for the good of Cuba and its government––a hero, one might say.
To let us feel the heat and action of the moment, the thriller’s filming happened in Cuba and Gran Canaria in Spain. Filming began on the 18th of February 2019 and finished on the 4th of May 2019.
Starring in the thriller are Ana de Armas as Ana Margarita Martinez, Edgar Ramirez as Rene Gonzalez, Penélope Cruz as Olga Salanueva, Wagner Moura as Juan Pablo Roque (this man loves playing Pablo), Gael Garcia Bernal as Gerardo Hernandez, Leonardo Sbaraglia as Jose Basulto, Juan Ángel as Gabriel Garcia Márquez, and Stephen W. Tenner as Mack McLarty.
