Hulu has revealed her plans to revamp the series starring Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult, ‘The Great,’ for the second season of irreverent royalty and some comedy. Without a doubt, this is one of the series of the moment.
The streaming platform revealed that ‘The Great,’ the satirical and modern version of the story of Catherine the Great, became one of its original high-performance comedies within the platform. Hulu did not give exact numbers, but we do not doubt that they tell the truth.
And now they’ve announced Season 2 is coming!
The cast also includes names such as Phoebe Fox, Adam Godley, Gwilym Lee, Charity Wakefield, Douglas Hodge, Sacha Dhawan, Sebastian de Souza, Bayo Gbadamosi and Belinda Bromilow, and, we must admit, Fanning did an incredible job in playing the greatest female ruler in all of Russia.
‘The Great’ came from Tony McNamara – who also took on another royal success, ‘The Favourite.’ He created, wrote, and was part of the group of executive producers, including Marian Macgowan, Josh Kesselman, and Ron West of Thruline, Brittany Kahan Ward of Echo Lake, Doug Mankoff, Andrew Spaulding, Fanning, Mark Winemaker, and Matt Shakman.
McNamara said that ‘The Great’ was an idea that came to him “by chance,” since the creator didn’t know much about the history of Catherine the Great, beyond the event that she was hit by a horse. However, when he heard more about her life and read about it, he was motivated to write.
For a story that was created “by chance,” the series turned out to be a stroke of genius, so we openly recommend it. Fanning’s performance, being one of her more adult characters, is of a level and keeps you interested in what might happen next.
