A couple of months ago, Amazon Prime Video starting unveiling updates of its highly anticipated fantasy epic show based on ‘Lord of The Rings’ as they announced Markella Kavenagh would join the show as a character named Tyra.
Now, we also know that Will Poulter, who you may remember from ‘Black Mirror: Bandersnatch’, will join the series in a lead role. No word on the specific character.
Saying the show’s creative team is all-star is an understatement. It includes Bruce Richmond from ‘Game of Thrones’, Gene Kelly from ‘Boardwalk Empire’, Gennifer Hutchison from ‘Breaking Bad’, Jason Cahill from ‘The Sopranos’, and Justin Doble from ‘Stranger Things’.
JD Payne and Patrick McKay are writers and showrunners with Bryan Cogman, also from GoT, as a consultant. J.A. Bayona, director of ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ and ‘The Impossible’ will direct the first two episodes and be executive producer with his regular aide Belén Atienza. The producers are Amazon Studio, HarperCollins, Tolkien Estate and Trust, and New Line Cinema.
Even though specific details as the casting of Poulter and Kavenagh have been revealed, we do not know much about the story. So far, we only know it will be set on the Second Age, when the Rings of Power first appear, which means it will be set way before than ‘The Lord of the Rings’ saga and ‘The Hobbit’.
After ‘Game of Thrones’ ended, the place of the #1 fantasy epic show is wide open, and many different shows such as ‘Vikings’ and ‘The Last Kingdom’ are out there but don’t seem to have enough to take the void left by GoT. This ‘Lord of the Rings’ prequel is a good bet to do so, and Poulter’s addition only adds up to the hype.
